BIOGRAPHY

Rika was born in Gross Ottersleben near Magdeburg, Germany, and lived in Berlin until her family migrated to Australia in 1956.  A Blue Mountains resident since 1984, she lives at Lapstone.  Rika studied at the National Art School and Alexander Mackie Teachers College, and taught Visual Arts in state high schools for thirty-eight years. She attended the John Ogburn Studio from 1974 to 1996 and has participated in group exhibitions at the Harrington Street Gallery since
1975.

Painting gives her the opportunity to reflect on experiences and maintain a  sense of continuity in her life.

This year Rika has included some works that are based on reflections on her return journey to Berlin (after an absence of 57 years).  Her travels also included Paris, with visits to the Louvre and Musée d’Orsay, and the Museum Folkwang in Essen.

I enjoy the process of forming a painting to be an object of contemplation.
