Harrington Street Artists’ Co-operative Gallery has been exhibiting paintings continuously since 1973, firstly in Sydney’s Rocks area and since 1986 at 17 Meagher St Chippendale. The idea of establishing a registered artists’ co-operative was the inspiration of the artist John Ogburn.
He recognized the need for a gallery which would assist both developing and established artists to exhibit their best work without having to satisfy commercial constraints. To further guard our freedom to exhibit the best, we have never sought or received government grants. We are able to keep running costs to a minimum through the generosity of voluntary help given by our members and friends.
