BIOGRAPHY

Margaret was born in Brisbane in in 1947.  She attended art school at the Brisbane Central Technical College where she gained a Diploma in Commercial Illustration.  From art school her working life began in retail advertising in Brisbane and then Sydney in graphic art studios, rural magazines and newspapers.  As she became more technically competent she became less satisfied personally.

In the early '70s a friend introduced her to the John Ogburn Studio where personal expression was encouraged.  Attending the John Ogburn Studio has been invaluable.  His teaching has continued to help her look at her environment with fresh eyes and an ever increasing appreciation of all things created.

After resuming classes in the mid 80s Margaret has exhibited in both Autumn and Theme exhibitions at the Harrington Street Gallery.  Having left her sometimes challenging employment Margaret can now leisurely contemplate her surroundings and ponder the many ways to express her impressions in paint.  Being able to paint with fellow artists is vital and enriching.  Margaret exhibits annually in group exhibitions.

"Painting enables me to express aspects of my environment and personal experiences.  This process often challenges my complacency.  Having lately been lucky enough to travel and find myself in the presence of some of the great masters, I realise attempting to paint affords me some little insight in looking and appreciation.  Without painting and thinking about what to paint my life would be much less interesting."
