BIOGRAPHY
Born Sydney 1947. Studied Art at North Sydney Technical College and Arts at Sydney University.
While a student, she also attended the John Ogburn Studio from 1966 - 68. Here, for the first time, painting and art became for her something concrete, fulfilling and meaningful.
After an absence of four years working, painting and travelling in Europe, she returned in 1972 to Australia and the studio where she has continued to be nourished artistically ever since.
Marita was an art teacher at Loreto Kirribilli and OLSH Kensington for about 35 years during which time she continued to paint and exhibit.
Since 2010 she has run painting and life drawing groups at the John Ogburn Studio. She has also begun the work of compiling her late husband, John Ogburn’s paintings, writings and recordings, as well as the promotion and advancement of his life’s work.
She has exhibited annually at the Harrington Street Gallery since its inception in 1974.
“My paintings hopefully reveal some of my experiences and responses to life and my world over the last year. I am indebted to the insightful and generous teaching of John Ogburn over so many years and the solid support of the Harrington Street Gallery co-operative and its ideals. That my painting has, I think, been able to grow and hopefully advance, I am indebted to these two, without which my painting would by now, I am sure, be dull and repetitious.”
